Doctor Faustus

Adapted and directed by Jennifer Dick

“Great Mephistopheles,
Go bear these tidings to great Lucifer:
Say I surrender up to him my soul…”

Doctor John Faustus, a scholar, makes a terrible and terrifying bargain with the Devil. He will give up his immortal soul in exchange for 24 years of power and excess. Attended by the demon Mephistopheles, he embarks on a life full of indulgence, proud and unrepentant. A Good Angel accompanies them, ever hopeful of saving Faustus from himself and the horrifying fate that awaits him if he cannot find penitence.

Doctor Faustus is the inaugural production in a new strand of work for Bard in the Botanics, showcasing the work of Shakespeare’s contemporaries – Writing the Renaissance. Don’t miss this thrilling and theatrical new adaptation of Marlowe’s iconic classic, played by three actors in the spectacular setting of the Kibble Palace Glasshouse.
