“Let Rome in Tiber melt, and the wide arch
Of the ranged empire fall…the nobleness of life
Is to do thus; when such a mutual pair
And such a twain can do't…the world to weet
We stand up peerless.”

The Roman general and emperor, Mark Antony, neglects his empire for a life of decadent seduction with his mistress, Cleopatra, queen of Egypt. As their passion threatens to consume themselves and those around them, the pair are torn between love and duty – can their relationship survive when their actions affect the fate of nations? What price are you willing to pay for love?

Featuring two of the most iconic lovers in all of history and staged in the magnificent surroundings of the Kibble Palace, Shakespeare’s epic romance returns to Bard in the Botanics for the first time in fifteen years.
