“O time! thou must untangle this, not I;
It is too hard a knot for me to untie”

When Viola is shipwrecked and washed up on the shores of Illyria, she discovers a community in stasis, mourning for the loss of loved ones and stifled by repressed desires.

Fearing her twin brother drowned, she disguises herself as a man and enters the service of Count Orsino – who she falls in love with – but he loves Olivia – who, in turn, finds herself falling for Viola. Meanwhile, Olivia’s steward, Malvolio, rules her household with a rod of iron but is about to find his own secret desires could be his downfall!

So life and love come hurtling back to Illyria but, where there is love, confusion and mayhem are bound to follow!

Join Bard in the Botanics as they return in 2021 with one of Shakespeare’s best-loved stories, weaving together joy and melancholy, heartache and laughter – and an infamous pair of yellow stockings!
