The Importance of Being Earnest

  • Glasgow Botanic Gardens 730 Great Western Road Glasgow, Scotland, G12 0UE United Kingdom (map)

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PRODUCTION HAS NOW ENDED

“The truth is rarely pure and never simple. Modern life would be very tedious if it were either…”

Algernon and Jack both confess to leading double lives, maintaining one identity for town and another for the country. But when Jack proposes to Algernon’s cousin, Gwendolen, under the pseudonym of Ernest, matters become very complicated indeed…

“In matters of grave importance, style, not sincerity, is the vital thing”

“The Importance of Being Earnest” plays irresistibly with notions of propriety and relishes in the unbridled silliness and snobbery of the upper classes. This new production sees Wilde’s genius humour meet contemporary culture in a theatrical rollercoaster packed with shade, wit and vibrant characters.

To celebrate 150 years of the Kibble Palace, Bard in the Botanics makes its first foray into the hilarious world of Oscar Wilde with his much-loved “trivial comedy for serious people.”
