I’m reading your picture.
It’s a flower. Or a hand.
Or a bird with feathers so real I want to reach out and stroke them.
I’ve read your pictures. And they are marvels. Sonnets in charcoal.
Anne Hathaway, wife of a famous playwright, pays a surprise visit to a young artist, John Taylor who is painting a portrait of her husband. Why has she come? Just to see the picture, perhaps? Maybe she wants to know more about this ‘beautiful' young painter with the terrible sad eyes’. Just who is he, and what is his relationship to her Will?
Inspired by the theories regarding the suspected painter of the Chandos portrait of Shakespeare, Heavenly Touches imagines the meeting of two people bound together by their relationship to a man who happens to be a genius. Intimate and human, the play is a tender exploration of love loss and all the other reasons we make art.
