LEAR’S FOOL
A one-act play by David Henry Wilson
Directed by Jennifer Dick
“When the wind blew, and the rain came, and the thunder would not peace at my father’s bidding, why did you stay with him?
Love?”
Bard in the Botanics is proud to present the Scottish premiere of David Henry Wilson’s beautiful, funny and tender drama, imagining what becomes of King Lear’s Fool, after the character disappears from Shakespeare’s great tragedy.
Separated from her beloved King, the Fool finds herself captured and imprisoned. After a lifetime of service there’s suddenly no-one to entertain, comfort or counsel. Her only companion is her jailer, himself trapped in an army he doesn’t want to be part of, fighting a war he doesn’t really understand.
Now time is running out for both of them. The invading army approaches. There are enemies at every gate. And where is the King…?
A cast of Bard in the Botanics favourites feature in this compelling new production, presented in the spectacular surroundings of the Kibble Palace Glasshouse.
